FLOWERS, FLOWERS, AND MORE FLOWERS
Living and photographing seniors in Eastern Kentucky means seeing lots of green, lush mountain tops, creeks, and yes, flowers on the side of the road!Â
I tell my seniors all the time when they say they want a field of flowers, "You mean a field of blooming weeds?"Â Â
Depending on the time of year, you are likely to find: redbud, honeysuckle, Queen Anne's lace, Purple Coneflowers, milkweed, butterfly weed, Goldenrod, Virginia Springbeauty, and the list goes on . . .Â
Ask, you may, how I find these "fields of flowers" . . . by driving all over Perry and surrounding counties, and after 21 years, I know where many little blooming weed patches are growing! Â
Sometimes, we are lucky enough to stumble up a colorful patch of zinnias, limelight hydrangeas or sunflowers.Â
Often, I bring flowers from my own cut garden. I start seed inside in March so I can cultivate my favorite versions of Celosia, Amaranth, zinnia's and dahlia's by August!Â

Flowers have a way of brightening up any photo and bringing a sense of freshness and femininity. They come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, making them a versatile choice for any senior picture theme or style. Here are a few ways you can incorporate flowers into your senior pictures:
1. Floral crown: A floral crown is a beautiful and popular trend in senior pictures. It adds a bohemian and dreamy vibe to your photos and can be customized to match your outfit or color scheme. You can opt for a simple and delicate crown made of daisies or go all out with a bold and colorful arrangement of roses, orchids, and greenery.
2. Bouquet: A classic choice, a bouquet of flowers can be used as a prop in various ways. You can hold it in your hands, rest it on your shoulder, or even toss it in the air for a fun and playful shot. Choose a bouquet that complements your outfit and adds a pop of color to the picture.
3. Flower field: If you have a green thumb or simply love being surrounded by nature, why not take your senior pictures in a flower field? The vibrant colors and natural setting will make for stunning and unique photos. Sunflowers, lavender, and wildflowers are popular choices for flower fields.
4. Floral backdrop: Another way to incorporate flowers into your senior pictures is by using them as a backdrop. This could be a wall of flowers or a hanging floral arch. The flowers will add depth and dimension to your photos, creating a stunning and dreamy effect.
5. Single flower prop: Sometimes, less is more. A single flower held delicately in your hand or placed in your hair can make for a beautiful and intimate shot. Peonies, roses, and daisies are popular choices for this type of prop.
In addition to adding a touch of beauty to your photos, using flowers as props also allows for endless creativity and personalization. You can choose your favorite flowers or ones that hold a special meaning to you. You can also incorporate your school colors or graduation year with flowers.
When planning your senior pictures, make sure to discuss the use of flowers with your photographer. They can give you ideas on how to incorporate them seamlessly into your shots and ensure that the final pictures are stunning. So go ahead and embrace the beauty of nature in your senior pictures with the use of flowers as props. They will not only make for gorgeous photos but also serve as a reminder of your youth and blooming into adulthood.
