FIRST THING'S FIRST! with Tess Sergent
First app I check when I wake up: Messages. I always know if it's something important, I'll have a text about it.Â
First thing I would grab if I were headed to a deserted island: The Land of Stories book series by Chris Colfer. I started reading this series as an elementary student and just finished it as a high school student. The series has grown with me and is some of the greatest fantasy literature I've read. The stories would be a place of comfort and escape for me and that, I think, would be exactly what I'd need if I were on a deserted island.Â
First thing I think of when I see my principal: What a woman. She's the first female principal my school has ever had, and I think that's so phenomenal. I was lucky enough to have her as a teacher as well as a principal. I just have nothing but respect and love for her.Â
First thing I will throw away when I graduate: Our student ID's. My school has been very strict about wearing our student ID's at all times while in the building. I can hardly keep up with mine, not to mention my school picture is absolutely horrendous and I had to tape a better picture of me over it. It's something small, but I can't wait until that thing is forever out of my sight.Â
First thing I would wish for if I got two more: Days to spend with my dear friend Ally Davis. She tragically passed away in a car wreck earlier this year. I've always idolized her, and I'm so lucky to say that she wasn't only a role model but a phenomenal friend too. I'll never be able to express how much I love her and I'd give anything just to see her a few more times.Â
First thing you would tell your freshman self about high school: I know it's incredibly cliche, but savor every single second. It's absolutely insane how quickly it all flies by. I'd give anything to have one more great fully in-person year.Â
First High School class you would take again: AP English Language and Composition. English has always been my favorite subject, but this class just brought it to a whole new level. I absolutely adored the teacher and the content. Although it took a lot of work, I came out of the class so much more developed in my writing abilities.Â
First thing I do to relieve stress: Meditation. I meditate every morning when I wake up and more throughout the day if I'm stressed or just have some free time. I can tell such a difference in my overall well-being since starting my meditation journey.Â
First thing I would advise a junior about being a senior: It is definitely not a "breeze" as some like to claim. This has been the most stressful school year of my life whether it be because of all the added work from applying to scholarships or simply because I'm trying to adapt to everything online. However, it is soooooo crucial to soak up every second while you can. While it's been stressful and definitely not ideal, it's also been the most fun year of school for me by far. You just have to devote yourself to making great memories with the people you love.Â
First song you dance to when you get to control the music: I've been obsessed with Lana Del Ray lately. Anything by her is definitely a top pick of mine, especially her songs on Born to Die and Ultraviolence.Â
First person you reveal a secret to: My best friend Chelsea Barnett. She definitely knows entirely too much about me.Â
First Celebrity Crush: I vividly remember being absolutely in love with Zac Efron when I was a little girl. I had a poster of him next to my bed that I would talk to and kiss all the time. I was obsessed to say the least.Â
First person you text when something exciting happens?: My best friends Chelsea Barnett and Bryce Allen. I'd be so lost without them.
Tess's Senior Pictures were photographed last fall. We wanted to show off her fashion sense and natural beauty so we kept the backgrounds simple. Using the surroundings of Eastern Kentucky on a gorgeous sunny day, Tess came to life in the golden light. I found locations with large rocks, stone and iron gates to incorporate some natural hard scapes into the images.Â
She brought outfits with rich, jewel tones, which the camera soaked up, just like she soaked up the sun.
Her long, beautiful lines made her photograph like a super model!!!!Â
Tess will be graduating from Paintsville High School this spring.Â
